About Farringdon

Conveyancing in the UK is broken. Severe delays, lack of transparency, and poor client experiences are endemic. The industry is fragmented, under pressure, and struggling to cope with growing complexity.

Farringdon is a fully regulated conveyancing law firm designed from the ground-up around AI to bring speed, clarity and consistency to the conveyancing process. Our clients are home buyers and sellers, as well as estate agents and other intermediaries that introduce clients to us.

Our ambition is to become the household name for moving home. We’re right at the start of that journey having launched in May with our first cohort of estate agents and clients using Farringdon to sell their homes.

The team and technology behind Farringdon is what makes it special. Farringdon is a spin-out of one of the world’s leading legal AI companies focussed exclusively on automating real estate law. Our founding team built the technology that powers 1 in 10 residential property transactions in the UK today. Our expert conveyancers have decades of experience and have collectively completed thousands of transactions.

The Opportunity

You will be joining a small founding engineering team with a domain-specific agentic system already in production with real clients using Farringdon to sell their homes.

Our first product milestone centres around giving our conveyancers back the hours they would otherwise spend on behind-the-scenes work that currently makes conveyancing feel slow and opaque: triaging tasks, drafting updates, chasing third parties, checking documents, etc.

This is a greenfield role with real scope. You will shape the product as much as build it — working directly with our conveyancers to understand their workflows, with a product manager to define what to build next, and with the rest of the engineering team to decide how.

What You Will Do

  • Build Farringdon’s conveyancing agent. You will make foundational decisions — about architecture, about what AI handles and what it does not, about what the product even is — that will shape everything that comes after.

  • Work backwards from the user problem, not the technology. Understand what to build, what not to build, and why. In the AI era, that also means knowing what to delegate to a model, what needs human judgement, and what should not exist at all.

  • Shape product direction beyond your technical remit: from refining the problem with our legal engineers (domain experts) and a product manager, through to architecture, implementation, rollout, and long-term evolution.

  • Experiment with AI tooling to push the boundaries of what is possible today — with enough scepticism to avoid shipping things that are not ready.

  • Participate in architecture discussion to improve the quality, maintainability, and security of what we build.

What We Are Looking For

  • A track record of shipping products in early stage companies. You have taken something from idea to production and learned from the process.

  • You work with coding agents every day and have moved beyond prompt-and-accept. You decompose problems, delegate execution, and review output with a critical eye. The code is always yours; the agents just let you own more of it.

  • Ability to pick up unfamiliar code, systems, and assess AI-generated output. You spot flaws before being told, and you understand why something is wrong.

  • Comfort with ambiguity. Early-stage means the spec is often incomplete. You can make good decisions with imperfect information.

  • Strong communication: you can make technical decisions and constraints easily understood by a conveyancer and explain the commercial or user rationale behind your decisions.

  • Experience designing and shipping LLM-powered features or workflows in production.

  • Eager to experiment, learn, and iterate rapidly.

Domain knowledge in legal or property is not required. Curiosity about it is.

The Stack

We're TypeScript and Python end to end. The product is a modern web application; the backend is a set of services exposing typed APIs. At the centre is a conveyancing agent. We run frontier models via API — primarily Anthropic and OpenAI — and the hard, interesting work is everything around the model that turns it into something a conveyancer can actually rely on:

  • Tools are the agent's hands. Every capability — reading a case file, drafting an update, chasing a third party, checking a document — is a tool the agent wields. Designing those tools, and deciding what the agent does autonomously versus what it hands back to a human, is the core of the work.

  • Context is the real engineering problem. Getting the right information in front of the model at the right moment — across long-running, multi-step transactions — matters more than any single prompt.

  • Evals over vibes. We measure whether a change made the agent better or worse before it touches a live transaction, because "it looked fine in testing" is not good enough when someone is buying a house.

  • Human-in-the-loop by design. A regulated conveyancer is accountable for every transaction. The agent does the legwork; a human stays in command. The product is built around that division of labour, not around pretending it doesn't exist.

We're a small founding team and the system is young, so the stack is a set of decisions still being made, not a monument to defend. If you have a strong, well-argued case for a different tool or approach, you'll be the one making it. We choose together, and we change our minds when the evidence says so.

What We Offer
